Angels, Demons, and The Holy Spirit Message 2 July 21, 2019

Yes, yes … what do angels look like and what is their role? This was some of the questions asked by some of the congregation and that we addressed on Sunday July 21st. In case you missed it a summary will be below but let me invite you for this Sunday … we will look at a few other questions that deal with demons, or in other words – fallen angels. What happened and why? Come and find out at 10:30 am Sunday morning July 28th.

Last week – well we looked at what angels look like and what we see in Scripture is that they are capable of moving between the spiritual realm and the earthly realm and they must be able to change their looks or look like us. How do we know this?

Well, in Hebrews we are told that we should not neglect hospitality to strangers as we might end up entertaining angels unaware. Crazy thought – you may have seen and hung out with an angel. Kind of cool. But you would not have known it so it must be that they can cross over between the realms and they must either look like us or be able to change their appearance to look like us – if not then we would know.

We also discover that they do not marry – at least that is what Jesus said in Matthew 29:30. This does not mean that they are gender-less just means that they did not get marry. Perhaps they are only one gender. All we can say is that we will find out.

Now to the roles of the angels.

Hebrews 1:14 states that they are all ministering spirits that have been “sent to serve” those who are to inherit salvation.  There we have it in summary form. Guardian angel is a legitimate term. They are here to serve believers.

Keep in mind number 1: They are “sent” to serve by God and thus are fellow servants. Therefore we are not to worship them (Colossians 2:18 and Revelation 19:10) and we are not at our beckoning call. They are at God’s beckoning call. They follow God! We read in Scripture that some examples. In Daniel an angel was sent to help Daniel to understand a dream (Daniel 12:1). We read that children have guardian angels that watch over the children (Matthew 18:10).

And number 2: since we are fellow servants we should make it a part of our mission to serve others as the angels do. In Galatians 5:13 we are old to not use our freedom as an “opportunity for the flesh but through love serve one another.” Hebrews 6:10 tells us that God notices when we show our love by “serving the saints.”

The overall point: As the angels were and are to serve God in whatever capacity God calls them to so should we … let’s serve God!

Come this week (July 28th) and watch what happens when we lose this focus – join us.
